The stop-loss: your bankroll’s circuit breaker
A stop-loss is the maximum you’re willing to lose in a session, decided in advance, that ends the session the instant you hit it — no exceptions, no “one more spin to get it back.” It exists because the most expensive moment in gambling is the one right after a big loss, when your brain screams to chase. The stop-loss makes that decision for you while you’re still calm:
- Set it as a fixed slice of your bankroll (e.g., “I’ll risk at most 30% of my balance this session”)
- When you reach it, you close the tab — full stop

The win-goal: the part everyone skips
A win-goal is just as important and far rarer in practice. It’s the amount of profit at which you’ll happily stop and lock in the win. Without one, every winning session eventually gets fed back to the house, because you keep playing until variance turns — and it always turns. The win-goal lets you actually leave with money:
- Set a realistic target (e.g., “up 50% and I cash out”)
- Consider banking the profit and only continuing with your original stake
- Quitting while ahead isn’t weak — it’s the only way the house edge doesn’t grind you down over time (here’s why)
